Dimitri Monstein Biography

Dimitri Monstein is a Swiss virtuoso drummer, percussionist and composer who is at equally at home in the worlds of jazz, pop or classical music.

Dimitri began his musical journey at an early age, studying classical percussion and drums. This led him to become members of various youth symphony orchestras allowing him to perform with world renowned artists such as Andrea Bocelli. This in turn led to Dimitri winning a place at the prestigious ZhDK in Zürich in 2013.

In 2016, during his studies act ZhDK, Dimitri established his own group, the Dimitri Monstein ensemble and in 2017 released his debut album “Landscape.” A spectacular music video to accompany the title track, filmed at 3000 metres above sea level attracted worldwide attention thanks to support from radio Zürisee and “House of Switzerland.”

Tours of Switzerland, Germany and Romania swiftly followed and in 2019 “Landscape,” was selected as Album of the Week by German radio station NDR Info in 2019 prompting them to describe Dimitri as “…an all-round growing talent.”

For the past five years, in addition to his own project, Dimitri has been playing drums for Rolf + Gregory Knie's show Salto Natale. Various tours and concerts have taken Dimitri not only around  Switzerland but also to Germany, Austria, Italy, Romania, Taiwan and Singapore.

As a popular sideman, Dimitri has played with well-known pop artists such as Helene Fischer, Pe Werner, Fatcat, Bent Knee, Heimweh, Christoph Walter Orchestra and Pirmin Huber. But this has not diminished his passion for jazz with Dimitri performing and recording with the Swiss Army Big Band, Zurich Jazz Orchestra, Swiss Jazz Orchestra, Brain Echoes, Pirmin Huber Swiss Folk and Nicole Johänntgen.
